Greenbriar Retreat Blog

The weather is getting cooler and the trees are begin to turn.  Fall is in the air.   Have you tried the Disappearing Nine Patch block?     I know that it has been around a long time but I have just found it. 

 In November I will be teaching a class on the One Block Wonder.  The possibilities are endless with this design.  I just love it.  Also, in November the Texas Association of Quilt Guilds will be meeting and I plan to present Greenbriar Retreat. 

I read an artical today about girfriend getaways.  That is exactly what Greenbriar retreat is all about.  A place for women to be together, work on a project and relax.  Last weekend a group came to Greenbriar.  One of my favorite photos is of 5 or 6 women sitting on the back porch enjoying each other and a cup of coffee.  Another photo is of a beautiful middle aged woman napping on the couch wrapped up in a quilt.  Now that is relaxation. 

Today, my friend Margrett and I went to Dallas to pick up supplies for my quilters.  After lunch, we looked for serving pieces and dishes.  After finding what we needed and wrong turn or two we made it home.  We had a full day.

 After staining concrete, painting, moving furniture, and installing appliances we opened to our first guests.  My dream has been realized.  The Loose Threads and my friends are from Waco.  The weather was beautiful and everyone seemed to have a great time.  Laughter, relaxing, and creating.  What a wonderful  combination.  My friends from Waco helped me so much by making beautiful quilts for Greenbriar.  I will never be able to thank them enough for all that they have done. 

Today, I organized recipes and finished the laundry.  I spent time evaluating meals, timing, furniture arrangement, and linens.  Some tweeking and refining and we will evaluate again.

Construction is coming along.  We are painting trim now and getting more and more excited with each day.  Appliances and cabinets were delivered today.   

We have had many calls for information and reservations.  The calendar is begining to fill.  So many friends are working hard on quilts for Greenbriar.  Some are quilting, some are piecing and some are opening up their stashes.  I just can’t believe friends like these.  I am so thankful.
